Our Story

Tony Blight MBA (Dist.) PGCE – Principal Consultant

Tony joined Forte Hotels as a Financial Controller in 1985 and was rapidly promoted to Head Office roles including Senior Internal Auditor for the 240 UK & Irish Hotels. With a passion for skiing, he later became the General Manager of one of the premiere Ski Centres in the UK and handled a major development programme. During this time, he also sat on the Leisure Advisory Committee at Duchy College in Cornwall.

In 1999, Tony formed Rees Blight Consulting and over a four year period successfully completed assignments for clients involving litigation support, interim financial management, system design, financial training and corporate governance. In 2003, he joined one of his clients, a large international hotel group, in a senior financial role and was part of the project team that centralised the accounting function for 80 UK hotels.

After attending the University Of Wales, Newport on a part time basis between 2001 & 2004, Tony was awarded a distinction with his MBA. His dissertation examined how branded hotels can respond best to changes in a dynamic environment with rigid brand structures.

Tony was appointed the Finance Director for a small luxury hotel group in 2005. During a four year period, he restructured the accounting function and project managed the construction of 39 new bedrooms adjacent to a grade 1 listed abbey. After the successful completion of these projects in 2008, he was appointed Commercial Director with a particular focus on website development & optimization.

In 2009, Tony began studying a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Wales, Newport and completed the course in June 2011. Whilst attending this course, he has gained excellent lecturing experience at a local Business School at the University of Wales, Newport. Since this time, he has supervised MBA students in the completion of their final year dissertations.

While studying for a PGCE Tony resumed his business consultancy and project management work. Over the past seven years, he has provided consultancy services for hotel & restaurant owners particularly in relation to the development of a commercial awareness and agility.
